Please remember to monitor the club’s 145.29 MHz repeater and your email for changes regarding club meetings due to Winter Weather!!
As we continue preparations for Field Day 2026 our CW team is launching a program to assist and encourage new members to the team.
The CW Team holds in-person meetings following each club meeting. In addition, there are meetings over Zoom on those Fridays that we don’t have club meetings. Specific meeting info will be sent to each member of the team.
Topics discussed include:
CW Operating procedures
Q-Codes and Abbreviations
CW Keys and Keyers (There is a difference)
Each new team member is assigned a Code-buddy. This individual works side by side with their assigned protege to assess their progress and provide the advice and support necessary to get them to the next level.
Once you’ve learned Morse Code, we work with each new team member to get them on the air and get them their first CW contact.
For further information about joining the team, please contact Joel, K0JEM at k0jem8444@gmail.com.
73!
This net is run at 15wpm. This is meant to be a slow-speed net for new CW operators. All are welcome but please be kind to our newer operators.
Net Control opens the net by calling CQ CQ DE W0ERH W0ERH
Net Control sends QND QND indicating that this is a directed net
Net Control sends QNZ QNZ which is a request for everyone to zero beat Net Control (tune to signal of NCS)
Net Control sends QNI QNI K which is a request for all stations to check into the net
To check in, send a single morse letter of your choosing. For example, station checking in sends letter: F
NCS acknowledges by sending same letter and a question mark; F?
Station checking in then sends: DE N1TF GE <name, state>
Translation: This is N1TF Good Evening <name, state>
Net Control will acknowledge each station by callsign and operator name
N1TF DE W0ERH, GE <name>, 73
Net Control will then move to the next station requesting to check in
While the net is open, Net Control may occasionally send: DE W0ERH QNI This is a request for additional check-ins
When no new check-in’s are waiting NCS closes the net by sending W0ERH QNF GE DE KW1U (net control’s callsign)
